The ruin stands atop a small hill that has a sharp drop off on the Eastern edge closest to the mountains.
The grasslands surrounding Hluthvar give way to marshlands, that turn more and more sick and twisted the closer you get to the ruin.
Located in the Marsh of Twilight South East of Hluthvar.
Above ground is the crumbling structure of the old tower. It used to be home to a Banshee, but she was defeated by a group of adventurers a long time ago (1442 DR). Before the Banshee it was an outpost tied to a network that kept watch, looking for the dangers that would come from the mountains and attack the town of Hluthvar and the villages and farmsteads on the plains (created 1202 DR).
Now it is home to Randal Greycastle the Vampire, his minions, and a lair of lizardfolk. Moss and lichens grow in patches across the castle’s crumbling walls. In places, the growths entirely obscure the stonework.
The ruin stands atop a mound that slopes upward, and then has a steep descent, almost like a ramp pointing towards the mountains in the distance. Surrounding the mound is marshland with swamp-like areas.
The area is mostly knee-deep water with numerous small patches of dry, albeit somewhat soggy land.
Despite the thick tree growth in the marshland, the area is well lit during the day, where the early mornings and late evenings tend to see a lot of fog. There are plenty of buzzing and biting insects in the air, frogs croak and make the occasional splash in the water, and the shadows of even larger creatures are seen from time to time.
Randal’s coffin and resting place is hidden in the depths of the dungeon beneath the tower. Here is also the remains of the adventurers that he has killed over the last year.
A cursed place
The ruin is a cursed placed. Anyone who dies in the ruin above ground, and isn’t buried and blessed by a pries, returns the following night as a Ghast.
Anyone who dies below ground, and isn’t buried and blessed, returns as a spectre.
